Resident Artist & Teacher

Matilde Cini

Mati is an Italian ceramicist and teacher based in Barcelona, with 10 years of experience working with and teaching ceramics. She believes learning to work with clay is much more than a set of technical skills: clay can teach us to embrace imperfection, turn mistakes into creative breakthroughs and accept the unpredictable pace of learning and creation.

Mati will guide you as you take your first steps on the ceramics wheel and teach you different hand building and decoration techniques. She loves sharing her enthusiasm for ceramics, and will happily answer all your questions and get excited explaining all the geeky technical details. If you want, bring your own references and ideas and she will help you achieve them (if possible of course).

Mati is a philosophy graduate and has an eclectic background working in art management and UX before choosing ceramics full time. She regularly teaches in her own studio and is a resident at SSuave studio in Barcelona. She has also done residencies around the world: in Mexico with ceramist Gustavo Perez and in Sicily at Studio Mud. Her next residency will be in South Korea with renowned master Hyangjong Oh of Jeju Island.

She is best known for her cobalt blue stoneware vases, but is currently exploring new lines of work with naturally sourced clay and ash glaze.
